Vatican II's Decree on Christian Unity, 60 Years Later
This past November 21st marked the 60th anniversary of Unitatis Redintegratio, the Council’s document dedicated to the topic of unity of Christians. The text, while not one of the major ‘constitutions,’ nonetheless expresses a key concern of the Council’s teaching and of the Church today.
True ecumenism does not a lessening of conviction on the part of Catholics in their faith nor in their specific identity. Rather, the concern for unity among Christians is an important consequence of a genuine faith.
